Admissions Process

Please note that meeting the Eligibility Requirements does not guarantee admission to the IEMBP. In addition to verifying that you meet the eligibility criteria, the admissions process is designed to identify applicants with the strongest potential for successfully bridging into Canadian practice through the program.

Seats in the program are limited and cannot be deferred to the following year.

Applications that remain inactive for 2 years will be removed from the pool.

Application Deadline

The IEMBP is a minimum 9-month program, offered twice a year in October and January. The application deadline for both cohorts is May 1.

Upon acceptance, candidates will be allocated to a cohort by the program unless a specific preference is requested. Please note that cohort preferences cannot be guaranteed.

Admissions Process

Step 1 – Application

Review the Eligibility Requirements and FAQs carefully. Submit all required Application Documents by midnight (12:00 AM) Pacific Time on the application deadline. Only complete applications will be considered for admission.

Applicants do not need to wait until the deadline to complete their application. Early applications are encouraged.

Step 2 – File Assessment

The Admissions Committee will begin reviewing an application once all required documents are received by the deadline.

Step 3 – Interview

After reviewing all complete applications submitted by the deadline, shortlisted applicants will be contacted to schedule an online interview via Zoom.

Step 4 – Decision

All applicants will be notified of their admission decisions via email around the same time, following the completion of all interviews and assessments. It typically takes 2-3 months after the application deadline for the Admissions Committee to complete application reviews, conduct interviews, and issue final decisions.

Applicants will receive one of the following decisions:

  • Acceptance: Applicants are offered admission based on their performance in the interview and our mission to increase experience and diversity in the midwifery workforce. Accepted applicants will receive documentation to support any required immigration applications (e.g., study permit, co-op work permit, visa).
  • Waitlist: A short waitlist is maintained until the start of the program. Applicants on the waitlist will be contacted if a seat becomes available.
  • Rejection: Applicants who are not offered admission typically submitted less competitive applications in the current cycle. While they are not necessarily disqualified, they will not be reconsidered until they pursue further education, experience, or significant improvement before reapplying.
