About the Program
The Internationally Educated Midwives Bridging Program (IEMBP) provides education, training, and orientation for internationally educated midwives (IEMs) who intend to apply for registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). The BCCNM requires IEMs who have not completed a Canadian-approved midwifery education program to complete this bridging program as part of their pathway to registration.
The IEMBP is designed to address specific gaps between participants’ previous education and clinical experience and the current standards of midwifery practice in British Columbia, with a focus on supporting their transition into the role of a primary care provider.
Program Context
IEMBP follows the competencies and requirements set by the BCCNM and the Canadian Midwifery Regulators Council (CMRC). Successful completion is one of the pathways that support eligibility to write the Canadian Midwifery Registration Examination (CMRE), a requirement for midwifery registration in BC.
Program Delivery
IEMBP is a full-time, time-limited program delivered in BC. It includes online and in-person components, clinical placements within BC, and assessments based on BCCNM standards.
