International Students
Medical Insurance
Upon arrival in BC, international students must enroll in the Medical Services Plan (MSP) through the BC government. During the 3-month waiting period, they must have private health insurance, as they are not yet eligible for BC’s public health coverage.
The private health insurance recommended by UBC is David Cummings Insurance Services (DCIS). For more information, please visit their website.
UBC International Student Guide
The International Student Guide is your go-to resource for studying at UBC as an international student. It offers comprehensive information on topics such as immigration, health insurance, and tips for travelling to Canada.
Please note that IEMBP students are considered non-degree seeking students, and therefore not all resources listed in the guide may be available to you.
UBC International Student Advising
The International Student Advising team provides support with study permits, co-op work permits, PGWP applications, and other immigration-related concerns. You can submit an inquiry or sign up for in-person and Zoom advising.
For more information, please visit their website.

Midwives Association of British Columbia (MABC)
MABC is the professional association for midwives in BC. Student membership provides access to resources, advocacy, and professional development opportunities. There are no costs associated with student memberships, so all students are highly encouraged to register.
For more information, please visit their website.
UBC Student Health Services
Student Health Services provides immunization reviews to ensure compliance with required vaccines for participation in clinical placements. Students are responsible for completing this review before proceeding to the clinical portion of the program.
